We knew this was the house for us as soon as we saw it. It met all of our needs for peace and quiet with 2.5 acres, a fenced yard, and lovely blooming trees. The house has large windows and light just streams in everywhere. All of the views are beautiful. The mudroom and second floor laundry were certainly a plus for us. The master bedroom is very large and we loved the whirlpool tub in the master bathroom. And lastly, one thing that really drew us to this house was the way the kitchen stepped down into the family room with the fireplace.
What upgrades have you made to enhance your home?
The first thing we added to this house was hardwood floors on the main level and we replaced the carpeting upstairs. You should see the light stream across those floors! In 2012, we replaced the roof and the hot water heater. And in 2013, we replaced the geothermal system. In 2014, we added a huge deck which runs the entire length of the house. We upgraded the kitchen in 2015 with granite counters and stainless appliances.
What are a few of your favorite features?
Well, number one is the kitchen. We have our family over often so a big kitchen is a must for us. There is a lot of counter space, open shelving, a center island with seating, space for a big table, plus we have a separate dining room. We can easily park 8 cars in the driveway, so when we added the deck we really amped up our party space.
As much as we love having family and friends here, we also love the quiet and seclusion of our home. We can sit out on the deck in the morning with our coffee and watch the birds come to the feeder – we have gold finches and blue birds. The fox and deer also make an appearance and next door we have seen some wild turkeys.
What are a few things you like about your community?
First, there is no HOA in this community. We live in the country and our house is 1/3 of a mile from the main road. This is a shared driveway with other houses. All of the neighbors chip in to get the snow cleared by a farmer who lives nearby.
There are lots of farms out here and the farmers put their produce and eggs out for sale. When we stop to get something, we just put money in a box. Paying is on the honor system and it works. There aren’t a lot of places where you can do that.
Where do you eat and shop for groceries and other conveniences?
We are about 2 miles from Jarrettsville and there is a convenience store there. And don’t miss the darling little place called Eats & Sweets right in Jarrettsville which is a great place for sandwiches and homemade ice cream. We drive about 15 minutes to Forest Hill for groceries at the Giant or Shop Rite. There are dozens of chain restaurants in Bel Air which is only 20 minutes away. And for some serious shopping we head to Towson Town Center, which is 30 minutes away.
What more would you like to tell us about living here?
If you are looking for a little slice of country paradise, look no further. We have starry, starry nights and great big skies. The only sounds we hear at night are the sounds of nature. The house is private and secluded, has plenty of space for everyone, and looks great both inside and outside. We have maintained and upgraded the major mechanical systems to make this home worry-free for the new owners.
