What drew you to this house?



We were looking to downsize and discovered this quiet little townhouse community that was close to the Perry Hall schools.  The backyard had such potential as a small garden that we were eager to create a contained little sanctuary.  The view from the deck was lovely – just vast green grass that flowed to the woods beyond.  We were totally smitten.

What upgrades have you made to enhance your home?



We designed a magazine-worthy kitchen.  We took a standard separate-kitchen-in-the-front townhouse with large combination dining room/living room and created an open floor plan.  The kitchen is the main feature so if you love to cook and entertain at the same time, this is the house for you.  The cabinets are Kraft Maid antique cream with a mocha glaze.  There is a bistro bar that works as our drinks bar when have guests.  The main feature of the kitchen is a stainless range hood which vents to the outside so no more lingering cooking smells the next day.  The former kitchen is a library with a built-in desk and hutch.  All of the lower cabinets and pantry have pull-out shelves.  We love the travertine marble backsplash and how perfectly the colors of the counters, cabinets, and back-splash work together. 


The dining room leads to the deck which overlooks the gardens.  We replaced the existing deck with Trex and there is a bit of a Romeo and Juliet look to it with the bowed front rail.  We put a privacy screen on each side to provide a sense of retreat.  This space gets the morning sun and coffee on the deck is a regular activity.


All of the bathrooms are remodeled.  We choose a vessel sink atop a granite vanity for the powder room.  Upstairs, in the master bath, we replaced the tub with a walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead.  The walls, floor and shower are all ceramic tile and the vanity is granite.  The shower door is really what makes this room. 


The hall bathroom got its own makeover too.  The new tub is a whirlpool with jets and the vanity is also granite topped.  We love the light fixtures in all of the bathrooms.


In 2011, the front porch was widened and we installed all new windows and doors.  And lastly, we replaced the HVAC that same year.

What are a few of your favorite features?



Well, you have to know from all the description above that our favorite feature is the kitchen.  This open floor plan is so spacious and family friendly.  It has a huge amount of storage and counter space.  The Kitchen-Aid mixer gets to sit on display all of the time.


But, wait until you see the backyard!  We have created a small, privately fenced garden with a koi pond and fieldstone sculpting the garden beds.  We have grown ornamental bushes into standards and there is always something blooming.  The back gate opens to a vast green lawn where wildlife abounds.  Honestly, it is just like a storybook secret garden.

What else do you like about living in the area?



We love the convenience.  In literally minutes we are on 95 heading north or south or at the grocery store or working out at the YMCA.  Our home is within walking distance to Perry Hall High School, great for after school activities.  But with all of this easy driving, the townhouse neighborhood is small and secluded, so we feel like we have the best of both worlds.

Where do you eat and shop for groceries and other conveniences? 



If you like shopping, this is certainly the right area.  We are about 5 minutes from White Marsh Mall and The Avenue.  There are wonderful places to eat, such as Red Brick Station (get their shrimp salad) or Don Pablo’s, for Mexican (we always order the sopapillas).  We also like to get a salad at Nalley Fresh after we get our car washed at Canton Car Wash which is a high-end car washing experience.  There is a new ice skating area being built at the Avenue and there are is also a huge movie theater.  For groceries, the Giant is close by and we are finding good prices at Aldi’s.

What more would you like to tell us about living here?


The last thing that we need to share is that we keep a little hummingbird feeder outside our front bow window.  We have always had hummingbirds come to this feeder.  We hope that whoever buys this house will continue the tradition because we think the hummingbirds know it will be waiting for them when they return each year.
