One look at the exterior of this house and we were sold. The curb appeal is outstanding. The house sits back from the road on a partially wooded lot with an interesting stacked stone exterior, circular driveway and welcoming front entrance. Around back is a beautiful in-ground pool with a multi-level deck and gazebo. We envisioned how much our family would enjoy the pool, eating crabs in the gazebo, and lounging on the deck. The interior was as exciting as the exterior with its grand foyer, huge open kitchen with breakfast room, and family room with a stacked stone fireplace. This home is a big WOW in the middle of nowhere but so close to 695 and Towson.
What upgrades have you made to enhance your home?
Before we moved in we completely gutted the 80’s kitchen and brought it into the 21st century. It’s now a gourmet kitchen with granite counters, maple cabinets, a large island, a glass-tiled backsplash, a cooktop, built in wall oven, and red oak floors. We also brought the bathrooms into this century. Our upstairs buddy bath has a large ceramic tiled shower, double granite-topped vanity, and radiant flooring.
The in-ground pool had not been opened in years, so it need a lot of TLC to make it functional. We added a fire pit for cooler evenings. We have 10 grandchildren and we have such a good time entertaining them here.
In 2011 we replaced the roof on both the house and the gazebo with architectural shingles and installed new HVAC system.
What are a few of your favorite features?
We love how this house looks both inside and outside. There is nothing ordinary about it. The contemporary look with the casement windows, dark redwood-stained exterior, and the stacked stone sets it apart from other houses in the neighborhood.
The large, cleared yard surrounded by trees makes our home a private sanctuary. We are nature lovers and enjoy seeing the foxes, birds, and deer. We enjoy our morning coffee on the deck and listen to the birds as they begin their day.
Our home is just made for entertaining. The large family room, 2 story open kitchen, separate dining room, and breakfast room mean that we can handle a lot of guests and everyone can move around freely. The family room has a vaulted, wooden planked ceiling with wood beams and a magnificent stacked stone fireplace. It is a visual delight.
What do you like about living in area?
We like the privacy of our neighborhood. We are located almost at the end of a long, curving road lined with beautiful houses on large lots. The road dead ends into a farmer’s lane. The only people who drive down our road are visiting or live here. There is not much traffic and it is very quiet. Our neighbors are friendly and helpful. There is a big block party every year. But with all of this privacy and solitude there is such convenience to great shopping in Towson or Jacksonville.
What hobbies do you enjoy in this area?
We are about 3 minutes to Loch Raven Drive, with its hiking trails and biking. On the weekends Loch Raven Drive is closed to traffic. It is a perfect place for walking or taking kids to feed the geese. The Loch Raven Fishing Center is close by. You can rent a boat and fish all day in the reservoir.
The Jacksonville Senior Center and Recreation Center offer many adult fitness classes as well as programs for kids, such as baseball, soccer, and lacrosse. Unique to this senior center is a room with 10 pieces of exercise equipment. We can just drop in if we missed our scheduled fitness class.
Where do you eat and shop for groceries and other conveniences?
For most of our grocery shopping we head over to Jacksonville which is only 11 minutes away. For such a small area, there are 2 big grocery stores – Safeway and Shop Rite. For our destination shopping we go into Towson, about 20 minutes away. Towsontowne Center is known for its Apple Store, Nordstroms, Tiffany’s, and Crate and Barrel.
We will often have lunch at Kooper’s Jacksonville, known for their build-your-own burgers. Check out the Sunshine Grill in Fork. They have a great Mediterranean menu. Stop by the Golden House for their shrimp toast.
What more would you like to tell us about living here?
Move here for the Neighborhood - period. It’s a pretty ride to get here; you will often see fawns chasing their mother as you ride down the road. It is peaceful and calm in the winter and in summer it’s a paradise with the pool. In the autumn you can listen to the geese fly overhead as they migrate south. Living here brings you close to nature and with all that is right with the world.
