What drew you to the property?

In a word, we would say, “flow.”  Light cascading through the oversized, transomed windows and 9-foot ceilings on both levels were an invitation to move from one room to the next.  The family room is dramatic with its 20 foot vaulted ceiling.  The entire space was simultaneously communal and private – the large rooms that opened from one to the next on the first level said “togetherness.”  The wide upstairs hallway offered a great view to the lower level but also allowed each bedroom to be a private retreat.  We loved the dual staircase that led to the front of the house and to the back of the house.  We were instantly captured by this property and knew that 3200 square feet would be perfect for our growing family.

What upgrades have really enhanced your home?

Our enhancements were designed to move the interior space from amazing to absolutely stunning.  We added hardwood floors to the upstairs hallway and installed recessed lighting.   We replaced the overhead lights with fixtures that can only be described as works of art.  Our contractor installed built-in bookcases in the study and two of the bedrooms.  We also customized the closets in three of the bedrooms.  We added a maintenance free deck which is so great for entertaining.  Our grounds were professionally landscaped.  The flowering pear trees along the curve of the driveway are just lovely in the spring.  Recently, we had the house professionally painted in warm neutral tones.  We replaced the refrigerator, washer, and dryer in 2013 and installed new garage doors in 2015.

What are a few of  your favorite features in the house?

Our family spends most of our time together in the gourmet kitchen and family room.  We love to cook and there is plenty of room for 4 cooks.  We have extensive counter space, an island and a very large butler’s pantry.   We love the way the glass cabinets in the center island face the family room. 

Our kitchen and breakfast room open to the family room.  When the deck was added we even had  more space to entertain our friends and family.

The ceilings on both levels of this house are 9 feet.  This feature creates a sense of spaciousness upstairs.  In the master bedroom, which is huge by the way, there is an elegant tray ceiling that is surrounded by crown molding.  The upstairs has four bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms.  Two of the bedrooms are connected by a “buddy bath” and our guest room is also an en suite.

What are a few things you like about your community?

Colvard Manor is a very quiet community that is removed from traffic and suburban bustle.  As we approach our community we always look for the llamas at the farm on Johnson Mill Road.  Because the lots are over an acre, this is the kind of community where we can be as close to or as distant from our neighbors as we want to be.  It has been easy to make friends here.

Our location is great. We live in the country but are only 5 minutes from a grocery store and 10 minutes from Bel Air.   We are only a short drive to our fitness center and the Ma and Pa Trail is only 10 minutes away.

Where do you eat and shop for groceries and other conveniences?

Everything we need is really close by.  For groceries, we shop at the Giant, Shop Rite, and Redner’s.  Courtland Hardware in Bel Air is our go-to hardware store -- the personal service we get there is great.  We love to garden and get our plants at Grier’s Nursery.

For dining, we recommend Enotria that is only 5 minutes away – try the Ravioli specials.  One of our favorite restaurants, The Lodge, is only 1 mile away.   And if you need something to eat quickly, both Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s are also close.

What more would you like to tell us about living here?

The most amazing thing about living here is the view.  Our house sits on the crest of the community and looks stately and magnificent as we approach.  The rolling hills fall away from our property and the panorama is spectacular.  There are horses grazing in the distance.  As close as we are to conveniences, the scene is pastoral. The sky is so, so big from this vantage and the sunsets are very grand.  And when the night sky fills with stars, well, that is just absolutely breathtaking.
