What Drew You to This House?


We were moving from Texas to Maryland and were looking for a large home that was much like our Texas house.  1701 had impressive curb appeal.  The house sits gracefully on a large corner lot and is a standout in the Stone Ridge neighborhood.  The combined look of the custom landscaping, stone front, and large glass double front door with transom was simply stunning.  We really wanted a house with the garage on the side and a level backyard.  We needed 4 bedrooms plus rooms for our houseguests who visit often.  Once walked through the front door, we were sold!

What upgrades have you made to enhance your home?


This home was built in 2000 and it already had many upgrades – hardwood floors, stainless appliances, a huge stone patio in the back, 2 family rooms, and 2 wet bars.  We wanted to convert the living room into a library/music room, so we added floor to ceiling bookshelves the entire length of the room and painted them a crisp white.  In the first-floor study we added wainscoting to the walls.  The wainscoting is painted in the same crisp white and dramatically changed the way the room looks.  It’s a traditional look and not often seen in newer construction.  In this house, it looks modern and elegant.

What are a few of your favorite features?


We love to welcome our guests through the front door.  Their first look into the house is absolutely jaw-dropping. The foyer is very large with a wide staircase to the second level and the main floor rooms are visible from this viewpoint.  The colors we selected for the formal dining room, the library, and the study are dramatic.  We love how these colors look with the white trim and warm floors.  

Number 2 on our list of favorite features is the master suite.  It is, in our opinion, massive.  It’s a place we can go and just shut the door and feel very private.  There is plenty of room for a king size bed, upholstered chairs, and a large circular table.  The master bath is huge, and we love having both a soaking tub and a separate shower.  We amped up the southern charm by adding a chandelier in the bathroom. 

The heart of our home is our kitchen and family room.  There is a desk in the kitchen for paying bills and doing homework.  We have a large breakfast area with doors  that open to the patio.  The kitchen is open to the family room and that is a great floor plan when we have house guests.  The family room with gas fireplace is a large room with high ceilings and tall windows.  There is plenty of seating for everyone and the kids can all go down to the lower level family room to play.

What else do you like about living in area?


This neighborhood could not be more convenient for us.  We work in Baltimore City and we have the best of both worlds – living in a quiet, secluded neighborhood surrounded by farms and beautiful homes yet just 10 minutes from 95 and Bel Air.  The school district is great and there are plenty of opportunities for our children in Harford County.  The Rec Councils are robust, there are horseback riding lessons, or we can jump on 95 for an afternoon at Urban Air, a trampoline park.

What are a few things you like about your community?


We just love driving into this neighborhood.  The owners take great pride in how their homes look and each home is a little bit different than the next.  There is plenty of space between the houses, but they are close enough for both adults and children to make friends easily.  We have a Community Yard Sale, an Easter Egg Hunt, Back-to-School events, and a  Facebook page.  You wouldn’t think having a FB page would be so important, but our dogs were returned to us before we even knew they were lost!

Where do you eat and shop for groceries and other conveniences?


We have a very busy schedule so easy access to pick carryout is important to us.  On the way home from work we can quickly pull into the Shop Rite Grocery store at Riverside to pick up a olives and cheese for a light dinner.  We love the produce and food bar a Wegmans (who doesn’t) and that is also right off 95.  Our favorite place for pizza is the Weis Market in Bel Air.  In the summer we head over to Broom’s Blooms for their homemade ice cream.  It’s easy to get to Bel Air or White Marsh for serious shopping.  One of our favorite family activities is going to the movies at the Horizon Theater in Fallston – we reserve reclining seats and eat popcorn with our feet up.

What more would you like to tell us about living here? 


We have loved living in this house.  There is no other word for it than it is huge.  The lower level has been a real bonus with its extra rooms and full bath.  We have a large family and many of them live out of town.  At Christmas we have room for both sets of in-laws plus siblings and cousins.  Everyone has a private place to sleep.  There is so much room on the main level, we can all be together, and no one feels crowded.  We have so many great memories at 1701 Stone Ivy Place and we know the new owners create new memories of their own.
