We were looking for a wooded lot to custom-build our first single-family house. We envisioned a property where we could design a beautiful garden setting and a house that would hold our growing family. We were really drawn to the unique open plan of the first floor and the way that the architect placed the stairs to the second floor towards the back of the first floor which magnified the two story foyer.
What upgrades have really enhanced your home?
We have a beautiful terracotta stamped-concrete back patio that we use for warm weather grilling. We love sitting out there enjoying the waterfall we created and watching nature on a summer evening. Adjacent to the patio we placed a six-person hot tub on a Trex deck.
What are a few of your favorite features of your house?
The afternoon sun sets behind the trees in our backyard. We sit out on our beautiful patio and relax to the sound of the waterfall and enjoy the lovely landscaping that surrounds our tranquil setting. Herons, hawks, eagles and forest animals are frequent visitors and we love the sound of the birds. It is so peaceful and serene. The quality of our life is truly enhanced by this relaxing setting.
In the winter we use our backyard hill for sledding. And after a fun day of sledding we relax in the hot tub. In the warmer months the back is great for volleyball and baseball games.
An upgrade we really appreciate in this house is how easy it is to be organized here. We installed custom California Closets in every room, even the pantry. When we are looking for something it’s all right there, easy to see, easy to get. It helps to keep the “serene life” theme we have.
We love the designer kitchen. It is spacious with granite counters, a center island, tumbled marble, stainless appliances, light splashing off the hardwood flooring and a grand view of the back.
Another item that keeps our serenity theme going is a Generac natural gas generator that takes care of the entire house in the event of a power outage.
What are a few things you really like about our community?
Our Campus Hills Estates community is one of the best-kept secrets in Harford County. Most of the homeowners are the original owners who love where they live and do not want to leave. The community backs up to an undeveloped portion of Harford Community College which makes it very private and quiet. The CHE community has exclusive access to a lake for bass fishing, rowing and bird watching. We are located in a neighborhood with no traffic. There is no “outlet” so the only reason to drive back here is if one lives here.
Where do you eat, shop for groceries and other conveniences?
We have access to Safeway, Food Lion, Shoprite and Wegman's for grocery store shopping - you can pick from these multiple options. The area has access tovarious restaurants from formal dining, casual dining and fast food establishments.
What other things do you love about the area?
Our location is easy access to go south to downtown Bel Air and the greater Baltimore area as well as north to points like Havre de Grace via I-95 North. We are only minutes away from Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
We take advantage of easy access to bike riding, fishing, gardening, bird watching, and the various recreation councils that offer numerous sporting options for children. We like the Ma & Pa Trail for running and walking.
What more would you like to tell me about your living here?
This community is the diamond in the rough that most people do not know exists. People love the peace and quietness of the area, the stately homes, big yards and the curb appeal of every house. Our home is a large house with plenty of room for everyone and everything. We have created a little paradise in the back and anyone who appreciates tranquility will love living here.
